Last week, during the ICNS Conference, the U-ELCOME DSD Project (SESAR Joint Undertaking) was presented by Giancarlo Ferrara , highlighting the work of the Italian Cluster coordinated by ENAV and showcasing the results of the 2023 demonstration campaign aimed at validating U-space services (U1 and U2) across Italy.
The Italian Cluster brings together all key stakeholders in the U-space ecosystem — including ANSPs, CISP, USSPs, UAS operators, and manufacturers — demonstrating strong interoperability during the trials.
This work marks a significant step toward the safe and scalable expansion of drone operations in Europe. Upcoming phases of the project will explore deeper integration of CISP, regulatory sandboxes, and the deployment of designated U-space airspace.
